John Holland and Surena Cordell
This couple appears in the 1850 Roane Census, along side a Robert Holland, born abt. 1830 in Georgia (wife Elizabeth, married within the year, son Samuel 4 months old) We believe these men are probably brothers, and ancestry unknown at this time.
John's household has Rebecca Cordel, age 45, born SC--possibly mother in law, and name could be sometimes spelled Caudle.

WILLIAM FRANCIS HOLLAND.
A prominent member of the Roane county bar and postmaster of Kingston is William Francis Holland, who was born in Roane county, on the 18th of November, 1873, a son of T. L. and Queen V. (Walker) Holland. The paternal grandparents were John and Mary Jane Holland, natives of Virginia, as were the maternal grandparents, H. Q. and Betsy Jane Walker. The father was born in 1850 and practiced law in Roane county for many years, and was chairman of the democratic election committee of the county for a period covering several years. His demise occurred in 1906 and was a severe loss to all who knew him. His wife was born in 1853 and died in 1909.In the acquirement of his early education William Francis Holland attended the public schools of his native county and subsequently read law in his father's office. He was admitted to the bar in 1902 and has since practiced in Roane and adjoining counties. Mr. Holland brought to the profession innate ability and thorough training and has won for himself a position among the foremost attorneys of the county and state. Aside from his profession Mr. Holland has been active in public life. For three terms he served as mayor of Kingston, inaugurating and bringing to completion many movements for the development and improvement of the community, and in 1913 he was appointed to the office of postmaster, in which position he is still serving, and is giving general satisfaction in the discharge of the many duties devolving upon him. For three years he was a member of the county board of education and for eight years he was connected with the city school board. A stanch democrat, he was chairman of the democratic executive committee for five years. Mr. Holland has achieved success in every undertaking and he well merits the confidence and esteem accorded him by his fellowmen. He has extensive farming interests in Roane county.
