PROPOSED FAMILY (PARTIAL) OF
WILLIAM SILVEY, SR., Roane County, TN
WILLIAM SILVEY, SR.
b: Bet. 1760 - 1770
d: Bef. 1850
+First Wife WmSilvey
b: Bet. 1760 - 1770 d:
Bet. 1830 - 1839?
Census: 1830 Roane 001/110/001/0-000/000/001/01
Census: 1840 Roane 000/010/000/1-001/000/01 (70-80)Notice there is a female about same age as William in 1830, plus an older woman. By 1840, both older females are gone, and just one daughter (or daughter-in-law?, niece?)
In 1830, William has three sons still at home, and no daughters. So either an error, or--more likely--the young male and female in 1840 household is married couple.
2 SAMUEL SILVEY (JR), b. 1791 VA see his notes
2 WILLIAM SILVEY b: Abt. 1795 in VA?
Census: Roane 1830 110001-22101 not listed in 1840
[This is listed William Jr., and he does not appear in 1840 census. He COULD be son of William Sr., or he COULD be son of Samuel Sr., and called “Junior” in deference to his uncle. No proof yet, but some clues. Will do separate page on the two Williams.]

NANCY SILVEY b: Abt. 1800
+Matthew
Gardenhire m: 02 Jul 1826 in Roane Co. TN
Census: 1830 Roane 100/01-100/011
This is pure conjecture. This couple does not appear in later Roane records, and probably moved away from Roane. No effort to track them down yet. No record of Security or Bondsman. Another Nancy Silvey, born abt 1813, marries George Ollis in 1843 Roane. I think she would be daughter of Samuel Sr., so don't think they would name two daughters Nancy.

SALLY SILVEY b: Abt. 1800
+Bradley Dalton b: Abt. 1794 m: 22
Jan 1817 in Roane Co. TN, sec. Wm. Silvey
Another guess. Since William Silvey signs the bond, it might be his daughter?
“Roane County Court Minutes, page 130” 22 Jan 1817 (abstracted by Robert Bailey)
Bradley Dalton who stands bound to appear here this day to answer the charge of the state against him on the oath of Sally Silvey who charges him with being the father of her bastard child appeared. Whereupon the said Bradley Dalton & William Silvey his security acknowledged themselves jointed & severally indebted to the justices of Roane County.
Another researcher says Bradley Dalton moved to IN in 1818, and may have had a child with him. No further research on these folks yet. A Dalton web site: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/1794/daltonfront.html
There is a good chance the Sally Dalton who m. Wyatt Gallaher in July 1817 is nee Silvey. They are out of Roane before 1830 census.

JOHN SILVEY b: Abt. 1802 in
TN
+Rhoda Cunningham b: 15 Jan 1784 in Chesterfield Co. VA
m: 18 Sep 1820 in Roane Co. TN, sec. George Arnold
Father: Valentine Cunningham
Mother: Mary LaPrade
*2nd Wife of John Silvey:
+Mary E. Nelson b: Abt. 1822 m:
29 Nov 1839 in Roane Co. TN, bond Jim Edwards
Father: John E. Nelson
Mother: Mary Polly Daley/Dayton
Theory: William Silvey Sr. probably moved from VA to TN about the time John was born???
Census: 1830 Roane 110,01-110,01
Again, it is impossible to determine for sure which JOHN belongs to Wm. Sr. and which to Sam Sr., but both men remain in the Roane area. It is not totally documented that this man had two wives, but the preponderance of evidence points in that direction.
Rhoda Cunningham is either the daughter, or granddaughter of Valentine Cunningham and his first wife. I believe William Silvey Sr. later marries Valentine Cunningham’s widow (his second wife, Frances) in 1839.
1840 Roane shows a John Silvey on page 23. he has 012/000/1-310/101--lives near Samuel. I believe the John shown on page 25 is more likely to be this John:
Census: 1840 Roane 001/100/1-001/2

SILVERY, John 42
", Polly 28
", James M. 8
", Jane 5
", John 3
", Samuel 2
", Elizabeth A. 3/12Notice the difference in parents’ ages. Also think error in John's age?
It is believed John and Rhoda had at least two sons, and two daughters. His son, William b. abt 1821, married Angeline Nelson, who is sister to Mary Polly Nelson--John’s second wife. Both the daughters of John E. Nelson.

2 SUSAN SILVEY, b. bet. 1800-1810, married Joseph Shadrick on 21 August 1827 in Roane, security Alex Dugger. They appear on the 1830 Roane census with one young daughter, listed beside a John Silvey. It also would seem this couple may have gone to MO too, where there is a Joseph Shadrick, b ca 1809 TN, with several children--no wife--and Joseph Senior, 69NC in the household. This woman could be daughter of William, or of Samuel, and it looks like her family accompanied either her brothers or cousins to MO.
Denise says they are in the 1840 census of Morgan C. MO. Shadrick, Joseph 1-0-0-0-0-1 / 0-1-1-0-1. right beneath him is Rial and Martin Silvey.

in Roane Co TN d: 06 Feb
1886 in Webster Co. MO. bur Silvey Cemetery
+Lelitia
Howard b: 1809 m: Abt. 1825 in Roane Co. TN
We SPECULATE that Lelitia was daughter of Alexander Howard, due to his proximity to the Silvey clan, but no proof as yet. Also, HIGHLY SPECULATIVE is a marriage for an Alexander Howard to Elizabeth Wood in 07 Jan 1800 Jefferson County, TN. NO PROOF!!!!
Census: 1830 Roane 100/01-100/11 who is other female?
*2nd Wife of Charles Silvey:
+Cordella
m: Aft. 1852
There seems to be ample evidence to point toward Charles, Rial and Martin as sons of William Sr. who all moved to MO. Thomas W. Mitchiner as done a nice web page on Charles’ descendants.
Presumably these men would still be in father’s household in 1830. POSSIBLY James is there, with a wife?, in 1840????

2 JAMES SILVEY b: Bet. 1815 - 1820
We infer that James Silvey must be the youngest son of William Senior, from this entry in the Roane County records:
p. 89. [Monday, Aug. 1, 1836 session]
On motion it is ordered by the court that James Silvey son of William Silvey sen. [I take this to be an abbreviation for Senior] be released from working on the roads in this county until such time as it may appear that the said James Silvey shall have become clear of his idocy [sic] which it appearing that he is now possessed of.

No marriage records, or further info found on James Silvey in Roane County. One might think he joined his brothers in MO????
*2nd Wife of William Silvey, Sr.:
+Frances Cunningham b:
Abt. 1783 m:
26 Sep 1839 in Rhea Co. TN
There is no proof, but in view of her age, one would think she was widow of Val Cunningham, and too old to be marrying William Jr.
In 1850 Roane, the John Davis household #1465, shows a FRANCES SILVEY, age 67. John Davis m. Lucinda Cunningham, the daughter of Valentine Cunningham and Frances Lawton, his second wife.
If the Frances Silvey in the Davis household is not the widow (or divorcee?) of William Sr., I have no idea who she would be, given the age she is.
There is a marriage for William Silvey to Nancy Soloman in November 1835. Roane County. A personal letter written between Cooper family members reports this marriage as "Big Bill Silvey". There is no way to know, but if it was William Senior, then Nancy must have died or left him, prior to the 1839 marriage???
These Cooper letters also mention "old Frankie Silvey is dead." (1836)
