SILVEY/SYLVEY/SILVIA  RESEARCH PAGE

In early Roane County, TN, there were two men--probably brothers, and probably born in Virginia ca 1760-65.  One was William Sr. and the other was Samuel Sr.  No wills, burial records, or much of anything has been found, besides census records, to help us sort out which of the younger Silveys belonged to which father.  This page is an attempt to sort them out--with the help of other researchers.

Apparently both men named older sons WILLIAM and JOHN.  Both John Silveys remained in the Roane area.  One William moved to nearby Rhea County, TN.  It looks like one William died before 1840, and the one in Rhea County either died or moved - probably to MO.

It appears that all of William Sr.'s sons, except his John and his Samuel, moved to MO.

This site is offered as a place to share information and clues.  Please do not submit this information to Ancestral Files, Ancestry.com, Family Tree Maker, etc. because it is NOT documented, and false information spoils our chances of getting good data from other sources.

June 2006:  I have found some new tidbits that conflict with a few previous theories.  Most importantly, I believe "Capt" Samuel Silvey was a son of William Silvey, Sr., not Samuel Senior.  And I believe he is the Samuel Silvey shown in very earliest Roane records.  It would appear that Samuel Senior and his family did not arrive in Roane until perhaps 1815 or so.

I also believe there is more evidence to point toward the second generation William Silvey who married Betsy Howard being the son of William Senior, and the William Silvey who married (surely his cousin) Martha Patsy Silvey as being the son of Samuel Senior.  Although that couple may have moved to Missouri and lived near the children of William Senior, it would be because of Martha being a sister to them--and this William being a first cousin.   But, alas, no proof.

Some of the old material on this site needs to be updated.  I will be working on it.  I still welcome comments and inputs.

I also think these old Silvey men most likely were married and lived in Prince Edward County, VA--but no proof.

I find a marriage for Elizabeth Jane Silvey to Ancel M. Hudson in 1847 Roane, and don’t know where she belongs.  She is shown as 21 TN in the 1850 census [b. ca 1829] .  They live fairly close to other Hutson/Hudson’s, one of whom is John W. Hutson 33 and wife Elizabeth Howard.  Give me a break!  All in same area as old Samuel Silvey, et al.
