1. DANIEL² CRASS (JACOB¹) was born 17 Nov 1824, and died 24 May 1891. He married AVIS DAVIS 10 Oct 1851 in Anderson Co. TN, daughter of Charles Davis and Elizabeth.

Notes - Sunday, March 30, 1969 - A talk with Callie Crass Coward

Cousin Callie talked of her great uncle Daniel Crass, brother of Absalom, Callie's grandfather. He lived in what is now called "Slob Hollow" at the former Bogue Phillips farm, not far from where Vernon Jones now lives. She said he had a son, John, and a son, James, who married "Lizzie" Elizabeth Massengill. She said her brother Sam went to school (a penmanship school) at Fairview.

Callie said she had always been told that some of the old Crass family were buried in the Orchard View-Scandlyn Road vicinity (where the stones of Emma and Jane Ussery are now) and that the Crass Mill was near that spot.

Callie said her father, Thomas Crass, bought land from Mose Winters and that other Winters' lived in that vicinity. She said Absalom and Elizabeth Crass are buried in the Jonesville Cemetery on the upper side of the highway.

Cousin Callie said that Orchard View was built in or near the early teens and that before it was built there was a school at Jonesville. Her daughters first went to Jonesville, as did Callie herself.

Avis Davis was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Davis, shown on 1850 Roane Census with Avis as 13. Her siblings: Anna M, John R., Malinda C, Elizabeth, James R., Lewis S.
