WILLIAM2 CROSS (BRITTAIN1) was born 03 Apr 1807, and died 20 Mar 1904. He married (1) JANE BLACK 21 May 1836. He married (2) CHARLOTTE GRIFFITH BUTLER 1887.
William Cross was one of the most prominent farmers in Anderson County. He served as County Courts Clerk 1837-1845. Was in State Legislature 1848, and again in 1875 representing Anderson and Campbell counties. They were Presbyterians.

A History of Anderson Co. TN, by Clifford Seeber, page 30 "....A typical case of this kind was that of William Cross and his sons, John and Joe. The three slept together one night and parted in peace the next morning to join opposite sides in the conflict (Civil War). William and John became Captains in the Federal army, while Joe became a Lt. in the Confederate army.
