Family of Henry Crumbliss/Crumbless

b1,c7.: "Major Henry Crumbless, b. Roane Co, TN, 21 Nov 1834. His father [James] died when Henry was only 5 years old. He lived with his mother until her death in 1858, after which he went to the West, where he spent 3 years in Missouri and Texas. In 1861, he returned to the home of his childhood, and, in August, in company with others of his native county, crossed the Cumberland Mountains to Camp Dick Robinson, KY, where he enlisted as a private in Co. E. 1st Reg. Inv. Volunteers, commanded by Col. R. H. Byrd. After the war, he served two years as clerk and master of chancery court. On 8 April 1867, he married Nellie Griffin [b 11 Nov 1849 d 29 March 1938] of Somerset, Ky. They owned a beautiful home in Kingston, a valuable fork on the Tennessee River, and some iron ore lands, which engrossed most of his attention in later years. He served as Worshipful Master of Union Lodge No. 38 on eight different occasions. For slightly fuller accounts, see Goodspeeds History of East Tennessee, p. 1073." (Ref. Emma M. Wells, History of Roane Co., p. 167)

Goodspeeds writes about Major H. Crumbliss born 1834. "Next to youngest of a family of eight children, five of whom are deceased. Father James Crumbliss, was a native of Ireland (NOTE: we may doubt this, since "Uncle Tommy" was in VA as early as 1777 and James was probably born in 1785), immigrated to this county while quite young, and married Anna Goddard...

[Henry] was in Civil War... returned to Kingston, and has served as clerk and master of the chancery court, tax collector. He m. Nellie Griffin."

Henry Crumbliss (1836) was appointed Postmaster, April 1889.
