The Fike family came from Person County, NC, with the Cooper family to Roane about 1808. John Fike's will may be fund in Roane Estate Book A, p. 144, dated 18121 which named his wife MAHATABLE, daughter ESTER FIKE, and sons JOSIAH FIKE, WILLIAM FIKE, JOHN FIKE, AARON FIKE, and NATHAN FIKE.
Further discussion will be limited to the son, JOSIAH, who married (1799) Agnes Cooper in Person County, NC.
Josiah served as a corporal under Captain William Neilson from Roane in the War of 1812. In 1812 he bought 240 acres on Emory River. Josiah and Agnes Cooper Fike had at least one daughter, MARY FIKE, in NC. Mary married (1822) JOHN GODDARD in Roane.
Agnes Cooper Fike died prior to 1821 because Josiah married (1821) secondly, ANNA SUTTON in Roane. In 1823, Josiah sold 115 acres (of his 240) to ABEL CROW, and excepted "one rod square including the grave of my wife" (would have been Agnes). In October of 1826, Josiah was "of Rhea County" when he sold his remaining 125 acres in Roane to his son-in-law, JOHN GODDARD.
Josiah was in the Rhea 1830 census, but died prior to 1835 because his widow, Ann Sutton Fike married, secondly REUBEN PHILLIPS in Roane, November 22, 1835. A letter dated 1836 stated "Josiah Fike's wider married Reuben Phillips.
