HEDGECOCK , Willis Edward b. 26 DEC 1813 d. 7 AUG 1895

Son of Thomas HITCHCOCK/HEDGECOCK & Martha (Patsy) EARLE. Born in Lincoln County, NC, Died at Hickory Creek in Knox County, TN. Buried at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in west Knox Co., TN along with both his wives.

Lived as a farmer in Hickory Creek area of west Knox Co., TN. Organized and was captain of Company H of the 5th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry (mostly out of Blount Co.) of the Union Army in the war between the states from 1861 to 2 MAY 1863. His service records say he "Joined for duty at Barbourville (KY), Camp Pineknot in MAR 1862 for a term of 3 years" and that he was "Promoted from Co. G, 1st E. TN Reg to Capt., Co. H, 5th E. TN Reg. on 10 MAR 1862." He wrote a letter of resignation to HQ near Carthage, TN on 2 MAY 1863 complaining of chronic bronchitis and corals? of the femur. He also claimed to have suffered for over 30 years from scroffa and stated that he was 49 years of age. He immediately received an honorable discharge. Willis purchased 150A on Clinch River in Knox Co., TN from George JOHNSON on 8 OCT 1855, deed filed 29 SEP 1857. He purchased 150A on the Clinch River and Hickory Creek in Knox Co., TN from A. S. HUDIBURG on 21 FEB 1865. Willis did not appear to own land at the time he lived in Blount Co., TN but he paid taxes there in District 2 from 1847 through 1853, was listed in the 1850 census in the first civil district of Blount County, and was listed as gone from the county in the 1854 tax list. Married first to Mary Ann RAUSIN on 18 APR 1833.

HEDGECOCK Thomas b. 27 MAY 1837 d. 7 JAN 1920

Son of Willis Edward HEDGECOCK & Mary Ann RAUSIN. Served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company G of the 5th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry (Union) from 9 AUG 1861 to 17 SEP 1864. Lived at Lawnville in Roane County, TN during the Civil War. Bought the CROWDER farm (156 acres) adjoining the Thomas L. ROBERTS farm and later sold it to Henry Marion HEDGECOCK and sons. Owned farms first at Lawnville then a mile west on Patterson Creek. Buried at Lawnville Cemetery. Listed in the 1870, 1880 and 1900 Roane County, TN censuses. Married first to Martha C. LADD on 4 FEB 1858 by Samuel M. WILLIAMS, MG. See below for children. Married second to Almeda S. KREIS on 10 JAN 1901 in Roane Co., TN by W.R. DUNLAP, MG. Almeda died in Roane County 1921, cert. #233. Thomas died in Roane County, cert. #158.
