Nearly all the LADD Family information is from a mid 1990s series in the the Roane County, TN newspaper "The Standard" (now defunct) edited by Gerald LARGEN.
LADD John d. 2 AUG 1680
Married 1st Bathsheeba LOVETT, d. ca 1673/4 (daughter of Lancaster d. 1673 & Ann LOVETT). Married 2nd Mary ___. John arrived in Virginia on 7 OCT 1653 when Oliver Cromwell and the "Roundheads" ruled England. His passage was paid for by William DILTYE of Charles City County, VA.
John was appointed as arbiter on 15 OCT 1666 over a dispute between Adam SNALE & Adam THOROUGHGOOD regarding the building of a (Anglican) church. He received a grant of land on 24 SEP 1667 on the north side of Four Mile Creek in Henrico Co., VA. He owned at one time a 400A tract on Lynnhaven River in the Norfolk area which he sold in 1672. He acquired 700A in the same area on 25 MAY 1673, granted by Sir William BERKLEY, Gentleman of Virginia. He sold this tract on 16 APR 1674. He made other transactions as well. He was sometimes referred to as John LADD of Lynnhaven Parish, Lower Norfolk County (on the James River where Henrico Co. & Charles City Co. join, an area known as the "curles" because the river bends or curls there). This plantation was known as "Claytons".
His will, dated 10 SEP 1679, was recorded on 2 AUG 1680 (his wife Mary was aged 30). The executor was William RANDOLPH, founder of the prominent Virginia family. John's property was valued at 15,000# of tobacco.

Son of John & Mary LADD. He married Huldah BINFORD on 18 JUN 1701. Contributed 150# of tobacco toward building a Quaker meeting house on 9 MAR 1700. Chosen "overseer" of Weyanoke Meeting in 1721. Served as a Quaker "minister" for 25 years at the Weyanoke Meeting House in Charles City Co., VA. Quakers refused to pay taxes which supported "hireling priests" and were subjected to property seizures. William I suffered the seizure of a male slave & 300# of tobacco on 3 DEC 1726. His son John suffered the seizure of his feather bed & household goods on 2 AUG 1726. William I acquired 500A in Henrico Co., VA on the north side of the James River on 16 JUN 1714 for 50 shillings (2 pounds, 10 shillings). On 5 NOV 1715 he sold 125A in Henrico Co. to Thomas MURRELL, Sr for 2000# of tobacco. He sold a further 200A to Thomas MURRELL, Jr in AUG 1717 for 2000# of tobacco. He sold the last of his Henrico Co. property on 1 NOV 1731, 40A known as "The Great Slash Divident". He died on his plantation at Weyanoke in Charles City Co., VA.

Son of William LADD I & Huldah BINFORD. Married Ursulah ELLYSON on 10 FEB 1731 at Black Creek Friends Meeting House in New Kent Co., VA. They were Quakers. He bought 200A from William LADD III in Mecklenburg Co., VA on 5 FEB 1759. and a further 150A on 30 DEC 1766. He moved and was later known as William LADD of Mecklenburg County. His will was dated 7 MAR 1778 and recorded on 8 MAY 1780. All children were kicked out of the Quaker church for marrying outside the faith.

Son of William III & Mary LADD. Married Mary CREW on 17 DEC 1778. Mary was expelled by the Quakers on 3 MAR 1781 for marrying outside the faith. William was born & died in New Kent Co., VA. William enlisted in the Continental army on 4 JAN 1781 in New Kent Co., VA. Granted a Revolutionary War pension of $20 per year on 11 SEP 1833 at age 73. His widow was granted a widows pension of $20 per year on 29 APR 1845, retroactive to his death.

Son of William LADD IV & Mary CREW. Born in New Kent Co., VA. Married Jane D. "Jennie" RODGERS/ROGERS in Roane Co., TN on 28 NOV 1820, by James JOHNSON, JP. John C. LADD signed the marriage bond. Nelson was on the Roane Co., TN tax rolls but owned no real property in 1821. His brother, John C. LADD was taxed on 100A in 1819 & 1820. Nelson was in Capt. JOHNSON's Company of Roane County Militia in 1821. His brother John C. LADD was in Capt. WESTER's Company of Roane County Militia in 1819-1821.
Nelson purchased 90 acres on the north bank of the Clinch River in Roane Co., TN from John HAGLER for $300 on 16 JAN 1824. On 16 OCT 1824 he purchased an additional 10 acres from John HAGLER for $100, presumably adjoining the 90 acre tract and containing the homeplace. On 16 AUG 1836 he purchased 185 acres in Roane Co. on the north side of the Clinch River from Isaac Walker for $350. He sold 85 acres to Thomas L. RODGERS on 24 NOV 1836. On 18 JAN 1838 he acquired 105 acres on the north bank of the Clinch River from Phillip LETSINGER of Knox Co. On 15 APR 1839 he bought 50 acres on Copper Ridge in Roane Co. from Robert D. DUNCAN and John FRITTS for the sum of $10.
Nelson's will dated 17 SEP 1856 was probated in Roane Co. on 1 JUN 1857 and listed only wife Jane and was witnessed by W.N. PICKLE and T.L. RODGERS. Nelson was a visitor at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Roane Co., TN (Wheat area) from Marietta Church in Hardin Valley, west Knox Co., TN.
