Said to be the son of Amos MARNEY b. ca 1700 m. Co. Cork, IRELAND, Betsy ___ (by Rev. Simeon WADE) and grandson of Amos MARNEY b. ca 1670 m. Scotland, Rebecca ___.<unproven> Robert MARNEY was of record in Frederick Co., VA on 1749-50 Rent Rolls, LDS data. He is presumed to be the immigrant MARNEY ancestor. A Robert "MERNEY" was listed as head of household in the census list of Samuel PORTER in 1785 Shenandoah Co., VA. A Robert MARNEY was listed as head of household in the 1783 Shenandoah Co., VA census. He was married to Mary ___. The will of Robert MARNEY, Bourbon Co., KY Will Book B, pg 264 was dated 24 JAN 1805 and probated MAR 1805. The executors were James DRUMMOND and Mordecai BATSON. The will listed grandchildren John BATSON and Mary DRUMMOND, and children:

Born in Frederick County, VA. Revolutionary war soldier, enlisted in JUN 1778 in VA Div. as a private. Stationed about Richmond until 1781 when marched with the army to Yorktown and remained until the surrender. Lived in Shenandoah Co., VA after the Revolution, then in Rockbridge Co., VA for 10 years before moving to Roane Co., TN.
Married Sarah VANCE (b. 8 MAY 1764 or 1768 d. 15 AUG 1858 in Roane County, TN) daughter of Samuel C. VANCE (not a General!) in Shenandoah County, VA, on 22 APR 1784 by Rev. Simon WARE (AAI CD-229 says 17 APR 1786). Reference DAR #388039.
Pension Claim #W1046 allowed on 28 AUG 1839. Bounty Land claim BLW #34830-160-55 applied for by Sarah MARNEY on 7 AUG 1855, said Amos' pension was $30. Moved to Tennessee in 1798 and settled on the Clinch River. Purchased 500 acres on north side of the Tennessee River adjoining Zacheus AYERS for $1000 on 11 JUN 1803 from John STONE. On 15 NOV 1833 Amos purchased a sorrell horse, 5 sheep, 3 plows, and many other items for $1 as part of a complicated three way transaction. Died in Roane County, TN. Buried in MARNEY Cemetery near Tennessee Baptist Church and Riley's Creek near Kingston, TN. Cemetery moved to area behind church when Watts Bar Lake was flooded. Summoned on 22 DEC 1801 for jury duty on the first Roane County Court in MAR 1802. The 1850 Roane Co. census lists Sarah MARNEY aged 82 b. VA, $1000 real estate, with a Polly D. RABON age 24 (dau. of Joseph & Polly RAYBURN?).
