JOHN C.² ROBERTS (ELIAS¹ ROBERTS) was born 03 Mar 1795 in Roane Co. TN, and died Apr 1873 in Roane Co., TN.

JOHN CALVIN ROBERTS was born in the part of Knox County which later became Roane County, TN. He was married 2 March 1816 in Roane County to ELIZABETH BLACKWELL, daughter of David Blackwell and Sarah Harris Blackwell . David Blackwell was a pensioner for service in the VA line during the Rev. War. John and Elizabeth had sixteen children born in Roane County (note two copies of the bible record state the twins were born five days apart)

John C. was a veteran of the War of 1812, serving in Captain Chiles & Lt. Conway's Company of TN Militia. He enlisted 20 Sep 1814 at Kingston, TN and was discharged there on 1 May 1815, serving 224 days. He received a pension for his military service.

Elizabeth Roberts died "with the rhumatisms settled on her lung". Their burial places are unknown, but it may have been the old Roberts Cemetery on his father's farm. In settling the estate in July, 1877, his estate papers mention "There were originally 9 heirs but F. M. Roberts & Bazel Roberts having died their share will descend in equal installments to their children whose names are at present unknown, their residence however are thought to be in the State of Missouri." The heirs at that time were Elias R. Roberts, Elizabeth Roberts, Samuel Roberts, Rebecca Brown, F. M. Roberts' heirs, Amanda Byrd, Bazel Roberts' heirs, Asa Roberts and Hugh Roberts.

DAVID ROBERTS, b. 04 Apr 1820, Roane Co, TN; d. Bef 1848; m. ANNA HESTER, daughter of William Hester.  They had one daughter, Elizabeth b abt 1840. David Roberts died before 1848 "with fever" according to his father's bible record. In 1840, David's widow and ten-year old daughter were living in her father's home in Roane County, TN. The marriage records show that Nimrod Underwood was married 29 May 1854 to Ann Roberts, David's widow.

ELIJAH ROBERTS, b. 10 Feb 1822, Roane Co, TN; d.12 Nov 1868, TX; m. SARAH JANE FRANCIS, b 26 Jan 1826 TN d. 18 Nov 1857, both are  buried Shady Grove Cemetery, east of Rusk, in Cherokee Co. TX They had 4 children by 1850, and were living in TX by 1848. He was enumerated as "E. Roberts" in the 1850 census of Cherokee County, TX. 

        Elijah married secondly, LUTICIA F. HIGGINBOTHOM, b 5 Sep 1836, d. 21 June 1877. 

He died "with the black ganders," according to his father's bible.

ELIZABETH ROBERTS (twin) b 17 Nov 1823, may have died young.  There is some speculation that she was the Elizabeth Roberts who married John Brashear in 14 Oct 1847  Roane County, TN.  It has not been determined which John Brashear this would be, but most likely a distant cousin.  In 1860 Roane, John BRASHEER 30, Elizabeth 30, are living next door to John C. 65 and Elizabeth 62.  The Brasher [Brashear] children are George W. 12, Phillip 10, Rebecca 8, James 6, Joseph 4, Mary E. 2.

FRANCIS MARION "Jack" ROBERTS, b. 03 Dec 1825, Roane Co. TN; m. MARGARET LILE/Liles/Lyles (1824-1876), on 31 May 1849, Roane Co, TN. They went to Dent Co. MO by 1852.  Margaret Houston Lyles is said to be the daughter of William G. and Jane Eakin Lyles Children

HUGH ROBERTS, b. 24 Aug 1833, Roane Co, TN; m. (1) SARAH J. HICKSON, 20 Nov 1856 in Dent Co. MO. They had had at least 4 children. He married (2) SARILDA JANE GARRET WARDEN, widow of William Warden. ASA ELLIS ROBERTS, b. 28 Feb 1835, Roane Co, TN; d. 08 Oct 1877, Jefferson Co. IL; m. (1) CYNTHIA MINERVA TONEY, 19 May 1852, Roane Co, TN; m. (2) PATIENCE ANNA MARSHALL DEAN, 25 Aug 1872, Jefferson Co. IL. In the 1870 Jefferson Co. IL census Asa was listed as a farmer, 36 years old. His wife Minerva was listed at the same age, and at least 6 children living in 1870, born in IL. Minerva died in 1872, and is buried with 4 small stones which say Infant of A & C. M. Roberts. Asa married a second time at Spring Garden, Jefferson Co. IL, to the widow of Thomas B. Dean. They had 4 children born near Spring Garden, Jefferson Co., IL Asa died of heart and lung disease, and they are buried in New Hope Cemetery near Ina, IL  Children

ROBERT SAMUEL ROBERTS, b. 05 Jun 1837; d. 09 Jun 1910, Roane Co, TN; m. (1) LOUISA HESTER , daughter of Abner Hester. (2) ARTELIA SAMPSELL; By Louise, he had 8 children born in Roane county, TN. After she died in 1895, "Samuel" married a second time in 1901 and by Artelia had a son born in Anderson Co. TN. He and his first wife are buried in the Kries Cemetery, Sugar Grove Valley, Roane County, TN. (Civil War vet) children

BAZZEL ROBERTS, b. 20 May 1839; d. Bef May 1878, Dent Co.MO; m. MARGARET HESTER, 03 Apr 1858, Roane Co, TN. They had at least 3 children born in Roane County, TN.   children

REBECCA ELIZABETH ROBERTS, b. 21 Jan 1841, Roane Co, TN; m. JOSEPH BROWN, 11 Oct 1868. Joseph was am emigrant, born about 1844 in Saxony. They had one daughter, Elizabeth Brown, born abt 1873 in Roane County.
