Notes for REV. JOHN SEIBER:
Rev. John Seiber and Millie built their home, a mill, and a Church at the juncture of the Hoskins Hollow Road with the Frost Bottom Road. [Anderson County]. In addition, he owned much coal lands including one 5,000-acre tract (surveyed in 1834) on New River. Rev. John was a forceful preacher, but owning the church building may have inclined him to take certain liberties. In any event, he developed the habit of "dram drinking" which may have even improved his delivery, but the "dram drinking" developed until he was a habitual user of firewater to the extent that Millie nagged him constantly.
Of their children, Jasper Smith tells us that Levi was a teacher and a preacher, and several of the other boys in the family were preachers.

He was called as Pastor of Poplar Creek (later New Fairview) about 1857. Rev. John was well-known in the tri-county area. [Anderson, Morgan, Roane] He preached the introductory sermon of the Clinton Baptist Associational Meeting in 1884 at Coal Creek, and preached at a night service during the organization of the Big Emory Association in 1875.
In his Autobiography, Rev. John Seiber says he married in 1840, Alvina Kincaid. He farmed and worked as a blacksmith to support his family. He professed faith in Christ September 4, 1848, licensed to preach by Mt. Zion, and in 1852 was ordained. Rev. John served as Pastor at New Bethel, Mt. Zion, Poplar Creek and New Fairview--all in Roane County, TN. He helped organize New Bethel, Mt. Zion, and re-build East Fork and Robertsville Churches. Altogether, he helped to establish seven churches, and baptized in streams from Clinch River to every Creek of note from Lea's Ferry (Oak Ridge Marina) to Kingston, and from Bullrun to Morgan County. As Pastor, he received little to nothing for his work, and for his labors as missionary on destitute fields he never received more than 25 cents per day.
