Material on John & Joseph WHEAT families is from "The Virginia Genealogist", JAN-MAR 1993, Vol. 37, Number 1. The Levi WHEAT listed as the son of Joseph WHEAT, Jr is likely the Levi WHEAT who came to Roane County, TN. This Levi did not have a brother Hezekiah as the Roane county Levi is said to have, but he had a first cousin Hezekiah and a brother Zachariah. The Hezekiah in Roane County could have therefore been his cousin rather than his brother.
Other material on WHEAT prior to Levi WHEAT in Roane Co., TN was taken from LDS (Mormon) Ancestral Files posted on the internet.
WHEAT, John b. 1674 d. 17 MAR 1711
Born Piscattaway Parish, Prince Georges Co., MD and died in Prince George's Co., MD. Married 1st Rachel WILLIAMS. Married 2nd 1699 to Sarah ___ b. 1678 Prince Georges Co., MD d. 1766. Sarah married Jeremiah PERDUE after his death. John enlisted in the military ("her majesty's service) on 10 OCT 1710, serving in Major Gilbert ABBOT's Company at Annapolis Royal. He died while encamped in Canada on 17 MAR 1711. Troops had been raised by offering a coat worth 30 shillings, one month's wages in advance, freedom from impressment for 3 years, and firearms as royal gifts.(1) Some say Sarah's maiden name was PERDUE and that Jeremiah was her relative who assumed responsibility for raising John's children. Jeremiah's will dated 5 JUN 1758 was witnessed by Francis, William, and John WHEAT, Jr.(2) John's death was recorded on 8 AUG 1711. He left 40£ to his wife Sarah. On 12 JUN 1712 Jeremiah PERDUE assumed the accounts of John WHEAT.(3)

WHEAT, Levi b. >1780 d. <2 APR 1849
Son of Joseph WHEAT, Jr. & Lucy DAVIS. Born in Virginia. A Levi WHEAT appears in the 1810 census of Bedford County, VA. He was on the Roane County, TN tax list in 1805. On 14 NOV 1814 a deed was registered in which Levi bought 146A on Paw Paw Creek in the 3rd District of Roane Co. from Jason Matlock for $200.(4) Served in Col. John BROWN's Regiment of East Tennessee Volunteer Militia. Levey/Levy WHEAT of Roane County served from 13 NOV 1814 to 3 DEC 1814, term of service 21 days at $8 per month (total pay $5.60). He served as a private in Capt. John MCKAMEY's Company of the East Tennessee Militia, Col. Edwin E. BOOTH's Regiment. Levi was first summoned to jury duty in 1815 and often thereafter. Signed a petition in Roane Co., TN in MAR 1817.(5) Levi was listed along with his eldest son John among the voters northeast of the Clinch River in 1826. Levi appeared in the 1830 Roane Co., TN census with 2 sons under 5 years, two sons 5-10 years, and 3 daughters 15-20 years. He was also in the 1840 Roane Co. census.
Levi died prior to 2 APR 1849 without a will in Roane Co. when his estate was probated. Edmund WALLER was appointed administrator on that date. Henderson WHEAT and William ELLIS posted a $1,000 bond for WALLER's security. On 7 MAY 1849 Waller returned an inventory of Levi's estate. Catharine WHEAT (widow) purchased much of the personal property. Among other items she bought: hoe, ax, shovel, mattock, ploughs, reaphook, grindstone, , chairs, mowing blade, scythe & cradle, cooper's tools, sheep shears, fire dogs, skillet, chests, looking glass, beds & furniture, a bay horse, yoke of steers, a cart, and 9 head of sheep. Other buyers purchased: yearlings (calves?), saddlebags, pigs, tea kettle, rifle gun, augers, oven, grey mare, grey colt, saddle, bee gums, heifers, hogs, saws, and logging chains. Additionaly, Catharine got to keep the land (acreage not listed), a horse, 110 bushels of corn, 550 ponds of bacon, a sow and pigs, five sheep, hogs, two cows and calves. On 23 DEC 1850 Waller reported to the court that the settlement of the estate yielded $184.86 and that after expenses $112.91 was left for distribution. Some expenses listed included $1 to William ELLIS for "crying" the sale and $17 to Catharine WHEAT for "allowances". On 6 JAN 1851 Samuel CHILDRESS, attorney for Catharine WHEAT, widow of Levi WHEAT, deceased, made a motion and it was ordered that Edmund WALLER hand over to her the monies in hand from the sale of the estate for the benefit of her minor children.
Levi's brother, Azariah (Hazra/ Hazariah/Hezekiah) WHEAT (b. ca 1778 in NC, bachelor, no issue, his will dated 28 JUN 1851, probated SEP 1852 in Roane Co. listed several of his deceased brother Levi's children) served in Captain Allen S. BACON's Company, as a private from 30 SEP 1813 to 30 DEC 1813 during the War of 1812, enlisted and discharged at Kingston, TN. His name appeared as Hazra on his will in 1852. He was on the Roane County, TN tax list in 1805. The 1850 Roane Co., TN census lists him as a cooper, living with his sister-in-law Catharine Dillon WHEAT.

See "WHEAT Family" (compiler unknown) for other children, 18 total by 3 wives. Died in testate and estate was inventoried in 1849. The 1830 census shows Levi as head of household with 2 males under 5 years, 2 males between 5 and 10 years and 3 females between 15 and 20 years. He is listed in the 1840 census as well.
WHEAT, Minerva Catherine b. 4 JUN 1844 d. 23 APR 1911
Daughter of Levi H. WHEAT & Catharine DILLON. Birth date (in Roane County, TN) is from "WHEAT Family" (compiler unknown) but her headstone says she was born in 1851, inconsistent with the death date of her father (1851 date conflicts with Levi H. WHEAT, Sr's year of death which would lead one to believe she could be the daughter of Levi H. WHEAT, Jr, I have been assured by other researchers that she was the daughter of Levi, Sr). Married John SMITH RAYBURN on 13 NOV 1869 in Roane County, TN. The WHEAT community, now a part of Oak Ridge, TN, was named for her nephew, Henry Franklin WHEAT, the first postmaster of the community. Buried at Poplar Springs Cemetery, Roane County, TN. ("Manerva RAYBORN"'s death certificate #71185 says she died of cancer on 10 MAY 1911 at Lawnville)
